      <image:title>Blog - School Eligibility vs Medical Eligibility</image:title>
<image:caption>However, schools must determine educational eligibility, which is different from the eligibility criteria for other programs. Even if a child has a medical diagnosis, the school must assess whether that condition adversely affects the student’s educational performance and requires specialized instruction to access the curriculum. This process ensures that services provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 are tailored to the child’s educational needs rather than their medical treatment needs.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - What does a Special Education Advocate Do?</image:title>
<image:caption>This is where a special education advocate can and will be beneficial. The primary purpose of the advocate is to ensure students with disabilities and their families are receiving all the services required by law and have access to the school environment. Special education advocates can fulfill multiple roles for you and your student. They can review your child’s IEP (individual education plan) and help you prepare for upcoming meetings. They can also participate in the meeting with you as an additional voice, facilitating communication between you and the school. They can help to understand the special education process, the assessment process, and the results of the assessment. They should understand how schools work, and they are problem solvers who seek to find winning solutions for the student. They take notes, slow down the meeting, and provide emotional support.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Executive functioning skills are a set of skills Executive Functioning can be divided into three main sections. The first is emotional regulation or inhibitory control, the next is cognitive flexibility, and the last is working memory. These three areas are responsible for organization, planning, prioritizing, completing tasks, self-control and self-monitoring, and problem-solving.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Executive Functioning: What is the impact on students in school?</image:title>
<image:caption>It is not uncommon for executive functioning skills deficits to co-exist in individuals with ADHD, Autism, and anxiety. Likewise, the skills that may come naturally in individuals without disabilities are seen in students with both learning and emotional disabilities and could take longer to develop. They may also be seen in students with learning disabilities in reading, math, and/or writing. It is also not uncommon for students who are identified with Autism or an Emotional Disorder to have deficits in learning as well, but due to the identification model, they will not be identified with a learning disability. Either way, students throughout school may also struggle with EF skills.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How is it determined if my child will receive special education?</image:title>
<image:caption>Initial testing for special education For any student to be considered for special education services, they must be tested by a multi-disciplinary team of evaluators. Depending on the suspected disability, the team would include a speech therapist only, or if a learning disability is suspected, a diagnostician will be involved. In the event ADHD, Autism, or emotional/behavioral concerns are suspected, a psychologist will be a part of the team. Once all the testing is completed and the evaluation results have been written in a report, an initial meeting will be scheduled and held with at least the testing members, the parent, the child’s teacher, and a special education teacher.</image:caption>
